First Schools - Thomas Nichols, (who came from Scotland) married Susannah Bagley and moved into a log house, which had been occupied on the farm beside St. Luke's Cemetery, Hamlet.There was also a log barn on this farm, which was used for a short time as a school, before the log school was built on the 13th concession for S.S. no. 11 (circa 1885)- notes by Frank Stanton. [ There is no known picture of this log school]

Note : -[ This was the second official school (S.S. # 11) for the area. The building still exists (2003) and is on Peninsula Point road near the old Bennett farm property.]

Hamlet School circa 1940. It had two entrances with large cloak rooms. Girls were on the left and boys were on the right. It was a one room school with grades from 1 to 8. A Christmas concert was produced by the students each year, complete with Santa arriving at the end. The building still stands (2003) but has been converted to a home.
